THE BOOK OF HEARTS BY FRANCESCA GAVIN

Laurence King recently published a new book by Francesca Gavin (Visual Arts Editor of Dazed & Confused and Editor at Artsy and Harper’s Bazaar) entitled The Book Of Hearts. This collection of heart imagery captures the breath of art and design imagery exploring the meaning and representation of hearts from the Sacred Heart cult to the invention of the Valentine, from heart tattoos to pictograms. The Book of Hearts is an exploration of the meaning and representation of love and emotion through one of the most recognisable signs in the world.

IMAGINATION CONSUMES ME: ALAYNA VANDERVORT

Alayna Van Dervort, Juno's fortitude (performance)

Alayna Van Dervort is a Multimedia and Performance Artist focusing on existentialism. Born in Auckland, New Zealand and currently residing in New York City, which she usually escapes to work in her studio in Garrison, NY. She has been collaborating with Dutch fashion photographers Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin and artist Doug Aitken. Alayna ahas also been shooting musicians like Cat Power and Patty SmithKnown for her extraordinary sense of visual perception, her works appeared on Purple, AnOther, Dazed and Confused, The New Yorker, Art Forum and L’Officiel among others. She’s been part of the LUMA Foundation/ Maja Hoffmann for eight years now. Discover more after the break!

LINDA BROWNLEE LIMBER NOTES SERIES

A bit late on the uptake on this one, anyway here’s a touching episode of Irish photographer-turned-filmmaker Linda Brownlee’s Limber Notes series. We are invited into the home of Isabelle Matthews who lives in Twickenham with her husband Douglas who narrates this tender little short, talking about his wife’s incurable love for dancing. Limber Notes sees Linda journey into the homes of dance-lovers all over the country and film them dancing in their natural habitat at home. Check out the first episode here.

CIBO MATTO — MFN

On February 14th, New York’s Cibo Matto will release their first album in 15 years. The follow-up to 1999′s “Stereo Type A” was self-produced and recorded over the last two years by frontwomen Miho Hatori and Yuka C. Honda. Here’s the first video for “MFN” off their forthcoming album “Hotel Valentine” relased by Chimera Music.
